My friend and I decided we needed to start our own mini homeschool co-op.
A literature co-op...as in we take turns at our homes, read a book to the kiddies and plan a project to go with it.
It's fun. I love it.
Today was my day, so we made wormeries.
We read The Diary of a Worm first.
My kids love this book, it was their request.
I had no clue what to make to go with this book, but after quick trip to the wonderful Crafty Crow blog (see sidebar) and I was set!
Wormeries=super fun, easy project.
and layer dirt, sand, then leaves and grass. Add some earthworms...
cover with cling wrap and poke holes so the little wormies can breathe.
In a few days (supposedly) you'll be able to see the little worm trails.
The boys checked them all day.
They even told the worms goodnight.
zzzzzzzz.
My daughter wears a crown while digging for worms.
(and then later cheers for her daddy as he kills a muskrat in our front yard...while wearing his shirt and tie.
I think there's some major identity crises going on at my house.)
Storytime was great fun!
I've decided wormeries are very cool...even if I'd never heard of them before last night :)

I remember doing that as a kid ... my little guy would LOVE it. We might be making a wormerie today! Love the crown! ;)

What a fun idea! And a fun teacher you are! I would be considered a hero if I did a project with worms! LOVE the idea of doing a literature co-op!

just because inquiring minds want to know, how did your husband kill a muskrat? shovel? his manly bare hands? c'mon, i'm dying to know....
and, i wish we could make our own mini homeschool co-op, too bad for me you live in the other side of the world! hehe..
they look so happy with the wormies in their hands...all bundled up. poor things! still hatin' on the weather. when will it become spring?
