The Sophie-Line #2

I have been meticulously working on this shirt-dress for Sophie...as I've said before, I'm not an expert seamstress, but I do love doing it. So I found this adorable pattern for 'Sister Smocks' at my new favorite find, The Quilter's Corner, in Faulkton. Owned by Lori, this little shop is chock-full of fabric and patterns and lots of fun examples of projects. Lori assured my I could make this little dress and I can honestly say it was a super-fun project!

Sophia didn't feel like smiling for a picture in her new shirt-dress, but I know she was smiling inside:)
My favorite part of this project was the hem that I pieced together with a bag of 'scraps' Lori was selling that were left over from a quilt. I love that patchwork look!

The biggest sewing breakthrough for me when working on this was buttonholes!! I have never done one before, but there's actually just a handy little setting on my machine that just does the work for me...I just had to figure out how to do it. When I did figure it out, the whole house knew it! I made Jarrod come watch as I practiced...he pretended to be excited for me :) So the straps are just pulled through the buttonholes and knotted.

Here's a view from the back...aaaaw! So sweet!! I love having a girl I can make pretty things for!

I love the dresses and the other outfit! If you ever want to get together to have a "sewing party" I am up for it! Then again i would have to learn to sew first...but I can cut and pin and shop for fabric?!?
